Attorney Job Description

Attorneys of all skills and experience levels are in high-demand, and finding a good fit is essential — that's where we come in. To help, let's break down the role of an attorney.

What does it take to be an attorney?

Attorneys, or lawyers, advise and represent individuals, businesses, and government agencies on legal issues. To work as an attorney, you must first earn a law degree. After law school, you must pass the bar exam for the state in which you want to practice. Each state bar also requires applicants to go through a moral character and fitness review process. To-be attorneys must also take a legally binding oath that they will uphold the codes and the Constitution of the United States. They will also be asked to honor the laws and constitution of their licensing state.

Where does an attorney work?

The majority of attorneys work on corporate legal teams in company offices or workspaces. Other lawyers work for federal, local, and state government agencies and hang their briefcases wherever those groups function.

What is a typical day for an attorney?

Depending on specialty, practice, and role in either a corporation or a law firm, the typical day for an attorney varies greatly. The responsibilities of a lawyer depend on their position within their legal function. Most attorneys work full time, and many work over 40 hours a week.
