Special Counsel is currently seeking a full-time experienced Legal Secretary for a large law firm in downtown Chicago. The firm prides itself on its culture and growth opportunities, so the ideal candidate will be professional, motivated, and energetic. The preferred candidate will have some paralegal experience, as the role has substantive responsibilities.
Responsibilities May Include:
• Transcribe, draft, and revise correspondence and other legal documents
• Conduct general research on court rules to ensure that filing requirements are met
• Receive and review incoming mail and fax transmittals
• Prepare and coordinate outgoing mail and package deliveries
• General file maintenance including file review and opening and closing procedures
• Act as point of first contact with clients
• Answer and screen incoming phone calls
• Request conflicts of interest checks
• Prepare expense reports
• General scheduling duties including appointment setting and arranging attorney meetings, conferences and travel
• Calendar maintenance
• Responsible for attorney time entry and client billing
• Support other legal secretaries and paralegals as needed
• Strong personality- must adapt well to environment and workload
• At least 5 years litigation experience
• Extensive experience with PACER and e-filing procedures and with document management systems and litigation support programs
• Typing speed: 70 wpm
• Proficient in all Microsoft Office Programs
• Familiar with legal citation and terminology
• Must be familiar with Carpe Diem, Elite, DeltaView, or other document management systems
