Criminal litigation professionals ensure that the legal rights of those charged with crimes are protected and enforced. Defense attorneys, criminal litigation paralegals and legal support personnel will work on a variety of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, including violent crimes, drug and alcohol violations, monetary crimes (embezzlement and fraud), etc.
Criminal litigation professional responsibilities
Criminal litigation professionals may practice in federal, state and appellate courts. They support clients throughout the criminal litigation lifecycle, as follows:
- Pre-trial services: Provide legal guidance and instruction before being charged with a crime or presenting arguments for charges to be dismissed.
- Trial services: Analyze the facts of the case, formulate defense strategy, pursue potential plea bargains and represent clients at trial.
