Special Counsel is currently seeking a Patent Annuities Specialist for one of our mid-sized clients in downtown Chicago. This position dockets incoming postal and electronic correspondence from foreign associates and from the USPTO for patent matters and de-docket action items from the docket system. The ideal candidate will be polished and professional, and willing to work under minimal supervision.
 
Responsibilities:
• Docket incoming postal and electronic foreign and domestic patent mail from the USPTO and foreign associates.
• De-docket action items from the docket system.
• Update critical information in the patent docketing database daily as indicated by attorney, paralegal and secretary instructions.
• Create new patent records within the docketing software system and resolve any discrepancies within the new business intake system and the docketing software system.
• Generate basic docket reports and queries as requested by attorneys, paralegals and secretaries.
• Handle all inquiries from attorneys, paralegals and secretaries in a timely and efficient manner.
• Develop and document patent docketing business processes and train others on established processes.
• Assist the Regional Lead Analyst - Patent Docket with special projects/requests as needed.
• Provide back-up to Analyst I, Patent Docket.
• Other duties as assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position.
 
Experience & Qualifications:
• Experience utilizing intellectual property docketing software; experience using Inprotech highly desirable
• Minimum 2 years direct patent docketing experience
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite applications including Outlook, Excel and Word
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong working knowledge of domestic and international patent processes and laws as they pertain to docketing
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience
