Compliance Paralegal

Special Counsel is recruiting a Compliance Paralegal for a real estate development company located in Skokie, IL.  The compliance paralegal researches, establishes and implements legal and best business practices to ensure legal and corporate compliance to prevent code enforcement and legal action against the company. This role is also responsible for acquiring property permits and overseeing annual rent increases for residents. In addition, this role is responsible for overseeing lender required reporting and repairs.


  • Ensures properties are in compliance with governing bodies and lender requirements.
  • Communicates and track property violations the company has incurred.
  • Obtains operating permits and licenses for facilities and amenities from the state and local governing bodies.
  • Facilitates property inspections and repairs with community and regional managers.
  • Prepares rent increase notices.
  • Submits quarterly financial reports to lenders.
  • Tracks and report unclaimed security deposits; prepare due diligence letters.

  • Associates Degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred; Paralegal certification is highly preferred; or relevant work experience
  • Experience with legal writing and knowledge of Nexis Lexis software preferred
  • High level of skill with office productivity software
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, including failures to adhere to deadlines and processes
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to thoroughly read and comprehend policies, regulations and litigation related documents
  • Exceptional skill in gathering accurately gathering and synthesizing facts and specific details
