Contract Attorney

Are you an experienced attorney interested in a full-time, fully remote, contract job opportunity? Workers' compensation experience is a huge plus! As the in-house attorney, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely advice, guidance and representation to Claims Department, primarily in area of workers’ compensation. Conduct research with emphasis on case law, statutes and regulation.

Responsibilities:

  • Research case law, statutes and regulations on a variety of insurance related topics and provide appropriate guidance
  • Prepare memoranda and provide recommendations on legal issues to various departments
  • Draft legal correspondence including responses to subpoenas, tenders of defense and indemnification
  • Provide guidance to outside counsel regarding BHHC litigation strategies, analysis of legal issues, and claim resolution
  • Administrative duties as they relate to the practice of law.
  • Qualifications:

  • Law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited law school, and licensed to practice law in the State of California.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in insurance or workers’ compensation law
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal and professional journals, technical procedures, laws, and governmental regulations; ability to negotiate, write and interpret legal and business correspondence and reports; ability to effectively present research, make compelling and persuasive arguments, and professionally respond to questions from managers, attorneys and legal staff.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software and be able to master and become proficient proprietary and vended software programs.
  • Salary Range: $40-50 per hour, DEO
