Estate, Trust & Tax Paralegal

Special Counsel is currently recruiting an Estate, Trust and Tax Paralegal for a Cincinnati Law Firm.  The Estate, Trust & Tax Paralegal will provide legal support to assigned lawyers by assisting with the administration of estates, trusts, and guardianships, drafting estate planning documents, maintaining files, and maintaining law office records retention program.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains work assignments from attorneys based on needs of the office and experience level of the paralegal.
  • Meets with attorneys and clients to gather information needed for the administration of estates, trusts and guardianships.
  • Assists fiduciary with all aspects of estate and trust administration, including collection and valuation of assets, collection and payment of debts, and distribution, transfer, and/or sale of assets.
  • Prepares correspondence as needed.
  • Prepares and files all necessary documents with the Probate Court which may include the following:
  • Full administration of estate;
  • Relief from administration;
  • Appointment of Trustee and filing of bi-annual accounts and other filings for Testamentary Trusts;
  • Appointment of Guardian, annual accounts, and other reports and filings for guardianships;
  • Approval of personal injury and wrongful death settlements;
  • Adoptions; and,
  • Name changes.
  • Prepares state and federal estate tax returns.
  • Prepares individual and fiduciary state and federal income tax returns.
  • Prepares gift tax returns.
  • Maintains files, including financial and tax records, and keeps track of all due dates for probate and tax filings.
  • Drafts various legal documents, including initial drafts of Wills, Trusts and Healthcare Directives.
  • Occasional legal research.
  • Client interaction via email, telephone and personal contact. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree desired and ABA Paralegal certificate preferred but will consider experience in lieu of education. 3+ years of related experience required. Intermediate computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Windows and Office. Occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.  Ability to work effectively and professionally with attorneys, other paralegals, secretaries, clients and outside organizations.  Willingness to work overtime as needs of project dictate.
