Special Counsel is currently looking for attorneys to join an Eviction Response Team based out of Annapolis, MD, to primarily provide legal assistance to self-represented litigants in connection with Family Law cases before the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, including Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Guardianship, and Domestic Violence/Peace Orders. Staff attorneys assist self-represented litigants in drafting their pleadings and motions, preparing for trial, completing court forms, understanding court procedure and the law. Attorneys provide referrals to appropriate legal service organizations, agencies and lawyer referral services wherever appropriate. Legal services to self-represented litigants will primarily occur via in person walk-in assistance, virtual walk-in assistance, or as requested by the Court. Assignment Duties: 

  • Assist in screening and interviewing clients
  • Represent several individual clients in court hearings with minimal preparation. 
  • Help identify systemic issues in Family Law
  • Coordinate with the court, other attorneys, and with other organizations to ensure that clients receive excellent service while ensuring the efficient administration of justice. 
  • Maintain case records for clients
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the essential functions of the position
  • Assignment Details:

  • Anticipated Start Date: Immediately, following 3-step interview process
  • Expected Duration: Temp up to 1 year with potential for permanent employment
  • Hour requirement: 40 Hours per week within hours that court is open
  • Pay: $35/hour
  • Location: Annaplis-based with a in-state travel required
  • Required Qualifications: 

  • Bar/License: Licensed and in good standing in Maryland
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel in-state
  • Other:
  • At least one-year or more civil litigation experience.
  • Excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Spanish language proficiency desirable.
