Special Counsel is currently recruiting a Litigation Paralegal for a large, Charlotte law firm client.  The litigation paralegal will assist assigned attorneys in the firm’s Medical Malpractice team with litigation matters.  Firm offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling the calendar of activities of attorney, including depositions and client meetings
  • Composing, transcribing and editing of correspondence, discovery documents, pleadings, motions and other materials
  • Review of interrogatories and document requests, as well review of client draft response to interrogatories
  • Ensure documents are properly filed with appropriate courts, including submission of paper and electronic filings
  • Typing a wide variety of legal documents, opening and maintaining files
  • Legal research, jury verdict research, expert witness research, shepardizing and cite checking
  • Run conflicts checks and open new client matters
  • Closing of attorney files, including indexing
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience, with some medical malpractice preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certificate preferred
  • Knowledge of court procedures and rules in North Carolina
  • Working knowledge of Westlaw
  • Experienced working in Relativity, or similar litigation software
  • Strong project and case management skills
  • Excellent legal research skills, including utilization of online resources and subscriptions
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
