Special Counsel is currently recruiting a Paralegal for an estate planning, probate and elder law firm in Elmhurst, IL. The paralegal will support attorneys representing clients on elder law issues, guardianship matters, estate administration, trust administration, disputed estate matters, Medicaid applications and estate planning. Previous experience working on litigation matters is strongly desired. This position is 100% on-site. This is a non-exempt position and overtime is available.
Responsibilities:
Work one-on-one with an attorney assisting with all aspects of docket maintenance
Draft various pleadings, discovery documents, and correspondence
E-file various pleadings
Develop and maintain client and court files
Utilize existing files and research resources to develop information and understanding for pending and active cases
Conduct research, document searches, and other factual research and dictate findings
Update and maintain internal databases
Prepare court files and process court orders
Prepare and maintain pleadings indexes
Gather financial statements and prepare yearly accountings for client files
Communicate directly with clients to gather and relay information
Prepare estate planning documents including: Wills, Powers of Attorney, Quit Claim Deeds, and HIPAA forms
Manage attorney’s calendar, deadlines, and files
Work with office support staff to assist in reception duties
Qualifications:
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Adobe and Outlook
Attention to detail
Ability to handle several tasks at once efficiently and correctly
Ability to learn quickly and independently
Ability to manage deadlines
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree with a Paralegal Certification is strongly preferred.
