Policy Manual Consultant

Do you want to work together with elected officials, administrators, and the general public regarding education policies?

We are actively seeking policy consultants with a niche for education in the Sacramento area. In this role, you will be responsible for proofreading technical policies and manuals, providing policy training, assisting in drafting technical policies, preparing content for conferences, and developing and maintaining positive relationships with a diverse group of external and internal contacts.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares and presents documents to various stakeholders, governing boards, and interest groups
  • Assist with policy development workshops
  • Evaluate and understand federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Track and examine state and federal legislation relevant to educational programs and trends.
  • Consult with school boards and make recommendations based on policy findings.
  • Serve as spokesperson on policy issues and consult public school board members upon request.
  • Subject to change per COVID, traveling frequently throughout the state of California.
  • Support collaborative working relationships, as well as assisting policy manual production support staff.
  • Required

    Knowledge of:

  • Framework and operations of school boards, county offices of education, and non-profit organizations and commissions.
  • Current federal, state, and local legislation and regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures regarding the designated area of responsibility.
  • Fundamental practices of educational program research, advancement, assessment, and application.
  • Previous and current educational advancements.
  • Understanding of program management.
  • Methods to adequately represent client when in contact with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, educational, regulatory, and legislative representatives.
  • Professional experience with business letter creation, data collection, report formatting and preparation.
  • Ability to:

  • Travel frequently throughout California.
  • Clarify, apply, and explain policies.
  • Work independently and with a team.
  • Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, including coursework in education policy, administration, public policy, and/or social science fields.
  • At least five years of experience in related field.
  • Environment/Physical Demands

  • Must be comfortable sitting at a computer for a long period of time.
  • Must possess the ability to list, carry, push, pull materials and objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • Licenses/Certifications

  • Possession of, or ability to, obtain a valid California Driver's license by time of employment.
